Ivan Ruiz Machado


Ivan studied double bass in Cuba at The National School of Arts in Havana. In 1993 he moved to Europe where he has been working as an independent artist, from 1993 to 2009 in Vienna, and since 2009 in Madrid.

His incredible flexibility as a musician and his versatility on playing are reflected in the list of artists he has worked with, both live as well as in the studio:

Beside his career as a performer he also enlarged his field by creating his own studio “Papovox” in partnership with “Camaa music + art” where he has been working as a producer, arranger and composer on released productions like: Iris Camaa (Chameleon, Soul’s Embrace, Intimate Exchange), Hubert Tubbs, Milagros Piñera, Lynne Kieran, Sebastian Grimus (Grimus70), Virtudes Moreno, Julio Fowler (Ligero de Equipaje), Pavel Urkiza, to mention but a few.

Ivan Ruiz Machado is well known for his distinctive style of music. He loves to mix Latin rhythms (following his Cuban roots) with different music styles, like Soul, Funk, R'n'B, and Jazz. This mixture is a significant element of his compositions and personal interpretation. He is a passionate and virtuous bass player, both on electric bass as well as on double bass.
